What a excellent way to engage our youth. I wish I would of thought of it first.
Tracey, Dept. of Children & Family Services, Chicago, Illinois
I enjoyed learning about how Hip-Hop music and therapy concepts relate. It makes a lot of since. I can't wait to learn more.
Samuel, Univ. of Southern California, Los Angeles, California
It is a wonderful way to connect with high risk youth who enjoy the music and culture. I am glad that the approach is being used, especially for youth of color.
Cheryl, Dept. of Juvenile Probation, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A very unique approach to helping young people and the people that work with them.
Stacey, Dept of Children & Family Services, Las Vegas, Nevada

The Hip-Hop Therapist ™ has recognized
how in the last 30 years that Hip-Hop
music and culture has become a pervasive
part of the global mainstream society. Hip-
Hop is mostly known for its musical form
that examples the lives of urban youth and
their experiences of street reality, violence,
anger, frustration, and rebellion, but it is
so much more! It mirrors the lives of
many who are fighting against the norm,
attempting to be a creative spirit via rap,
dance, doing, spoken word, fashion,
entreprenuerlism, education, journalism,
politics, and now - counseling.
The need to be free from the oppressive
norm makes Hip-Hop a vital construct in
urban environments all over the world.
Represented by youth, youth culture, and
the youthful spirit - Hip-Hop chronicles the
lives of those who are oppressed and
disenfranchised from the traditional
adaptations of life. And since Hip-Hop
chronicles those life experiences from their
respective environments - why not use Hip-
Hop as a intervention to address ones
social, emotional, and behavioral life
struggles.
